4° (280 x 215mm). 23 hand-coloured aquatint plates by G. Hunt after Egerton. (Plate 4 with faint marginal stain at gutter, some occasional faint soiling, but generally clean and crisp.) Original paper-backed boards, printed title label on front cover, uncut (corners slightly bumped, some light wear); quarter morocco folding case. Provenance: William Henry Vanderbilt III (1901-1981, Governor of Rhode Island 1939-41 and member of the prominent American family; gift inscription dated 11 July 1923, Paris, to his first wife): Emily O’Neill Davies (inscription and bookplate) -- acquired from Macy’s, New York, 1934.
FIRST EDITION of Egerton's entertaining collection of street scenes in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dublin, and his fanciful depictions of bores, inns, a lovers' lane, etc. A FINE COPY IN ORIGINAL BOARDS. ABPC only records one other copy in original boards sold in the past thirty-five years. Abbey Life 290; Colas 938.
