2º (359 x 266mm). 6 hand-coloured etched plates with deckle edges. Original wrappers, front cover with printed title, motto, imprint and Etruscan border (spine split); mid 20th-century quarter black morocco slipcase and chemise, spine longitudinally lettered in gilt. Provenance: purchased from Brentano, New York, 10 January 1930.

EXPRESSIVE SCENES OF BOTH COMIC AND TRAGIC DISASTER on the hunting field, complete in itself but when reissued in 1826 enlarged to 12 plates. The adapted Shakespearean motto on the cover warns ‘All is not gold that glitters; neither does keeping horses at Melton, and mounting the scarlet, make the real Meltonian.’ Last plate watermarked 1825.
