A GREAT COACHING AND HUNTING PANORAMA, FINE COPY OF THE FIRST ISSUE, FIRST STATE, WITH FOUR OF ALKEN'S ORIGINAL DRAWINGS. The imprint of S. and J. Fuller occurs on the final plate. As Abbey notes, the plates were first issued in two forms, 'mounted on brown backing, stiffened with several layers of Whatman paper to the thickness of card,' as here, or else 'in one continuous strip within a wooden drum.' Thereafter there were many impressions, 'but without the mounts .... the quality of the impression and colour being decidely inferior.' Abbey attributes the work to Alken rather than Paul, and the existence of these competent drawings provides the supporting evidence. Abbey Life 488; Dixon 50: 'of very great rarity'; Schwerdt III p. 3; Siltzer, p. 193.
