Half-title, coloured aquatint frontispiece and 6 coloured plates, one uncoloured engraved plate only (of 2), 3 folding letterpress tables. (Lacking the Illustration of the Patent Breech, light browning and some spotting throughout.) Contemporary diced calf (rebacked with old spine relaid, recornered, rubbed). Provenance: William Ernest Duncombe, 3rd Baron Feversham (bookplate) – William van Winkle (bookplate)—purchased from Sessler, Philadelphia, 1954.
FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with the later cancelled pp. 214-220. These pages were cancelled in the later two issues because ‘the author had been a little too outspoken over a controversy concerning the Manton Patent Breech, that arouse between Mr. Manton and the Duke of Richmond’.
