A YUNNAN-STYLE CARVED TWO-COLOUR LACQUER QUATREFOIL TRAY
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The quatrefoil tray is well-carved through the cinnabar lacquer to the ochre-brown ground with a scholar wearing voluminous robes seated at a table, accompanied by three young attendants, in a rocky mountainous setting. The well is carved with a leafy floral scroll which is repeated on the reverse.
