A YELLOW AND RUSSET JADE CARVING OF A RECUMBENT CRANE
LATE MING-EARLY QING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY
The bird is carved with its legs tucked beneath its body and its head turned sharply backwards to face its tail feathers, its long beak resting upon its back. The details of the wing and tail feathers are finely incised. The stone is of an attractive yellow tone with streaked russet and creamy inclusions.
