Lot Essay

The shape and proportions of this console are related to drawings made by Jules Degoullons for the 'Société pour les Bâtiments du Roi'. A comparable model made by Degoullons and his workshop for the château de Bercy circa 1713 and now in the Louvre museum (B. Pallot, Le Mobilier du Musée du Louvre, Tome II, Paris, 1993, p.40, n.7) shows the same shape and ornaments, although richer and more complex.
