A BEMUSED CHURCHILL LOOKS OVER A FRONT-PAGE PHOTOGRAPH OF HIMSELF ON A COPY OF THE DAILY CHRONICLE AS HE IS GREETED IN MANCHESTER by the Lord Mayor, Mary Kingsmill Jones and other dignitaries on 5 December 1947, the eve of the 6 December ceremony in which he accepted the award of Freeman of Manchester. The city conferred the honor on Prime Minister Churchill in 1943, but the exigencies of war prevented him from collecting the honor until this postwar ceremony.
