BOYDELL, John (1720-1804) – A collection of engravings, mainly after Old Masters and most published by Boydell, most London c.1760s, but others c.1780s.
2° (643 x 485mm). 40 engravings, including 28 published by Boydell, most from his series of ‘Capital Paintings in England’. (One plate mounted on paper, one plate trimmed close to the plate mark, occasional light marginal spotting and soiling.) 19th-century half calf, flat spine lettered directly in gilt, Westminster arms in gilt at spine foot, sides with palmette roll toll in blind (joints splitting, spine panel with some cracks, spine ends chipped, corners rubbed). Provenance: Hugh Lupus, 1st Duke of Westminster (1825-1899; bookplate, binding).
A group of fine, large prints, most published by Boydell for his series or prints after Old Masters in the leading English collections, but also including two views of Venice after Canaletto, published by Furlanetto, two views of Parliament published by Pine, and a dramatic view of the Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen by Schalch published by Gmelin.
