An astronomical treatise composed as a commentary on Ibn al-Banna al-Marrakushi's Kitab al-yasara fi taqwim al-sayara, Arabic manuscript on paper, 16ff., the first four folios with 29ll. of black maghribi script, titles in larger black script, the other folios with tables in black, red and green, each with headings, some with polychrome headpieces, including one diagram of a dial, added notes to the front and back, in modern stamped red morocco binding

Lot Essay

The present work is a commentary on Ibn al-Banna’s Kitab al-yassara fi taqwim al-kawakib al-sayyara (Book of Simplifications on the Ephemerides of the Planets). Ibn al-Banna (c.1260 -1340) was an astronomer and a mathematician who lived and died in Marrakech, Morocco. See B.A. Rosenfeld and E. Ihsanoglu, Mathematicians, Astronomers & Other Scholars of Islamic Civilisation and their Works( 7th – 19th C.), Istanbul, 2003, pp. 241 – 243, no.696. This commentary and author appear to be unrecorded.
