The central inscription is taken from John 8:12; that on the rim is from St. Matthew's description of the Last Supper, Matthew 26:26-28. This type of plate would have been used as part of the Offertory as the bread and wine were placed on the altar prior to distribution. For a discussion of tinned-copper see M.
