A PAIR OF HUANGHUALI 'SOUTHERN OFFICIAL'S HAT' ARMCHAIRS, NANGUANMAOYI

Each chair has a curved crestrail supported on three curved and tapered spindles and curved back posts, which continue through the seat to form the rear legs. The arm rails are supported on slender standing stiles and terminate in the front posts, which form the front legs. The mat seat is enclosed in the rectangular frame above the shaped aprons and spandrels. The legs are of round section and joined by a footrest and round stretchers above plain aprons on the front and sides.
