Lot Essay

Garrett uses only his hands and the simplest tools and natural materials to create his work. Each piece is built up with the coil and pinch technique. After careful scraping and smoothing, lines are impressed individually into the clay with the edge of a mussel shell and the remaining surface finely burnishing with agate pebbles. The finished pieces are saggar-fired a lustrous black using wood and bark.
