The unusually-formed jardinière is supported on six ruyi-form feet which are boldly highlighted in gilt enamel. The exterior is finely decorated with flowering prunus branches which twist and extend around the sides, interspersed with a large iron red peony bloom and lingzhi sprig. There are several intricately-enamelled insects flying amongst the flowers. The interior is enamelled turquoise and the base is painted with an apocryphal Yongzheng mark in blue enamel within a double square.

Shallow jardinières of this kind are most commonly found in quatrefoil form. The conjoined double-circle form of the current jardinière appears to be extremely rare. Furthermore, the quality of the enamels are exquisite and are comparable to many imperial famille rose porcelains of the Yongzheng period. The painting style of the current decoration is parallel to that of the series of large imperial dishes originating in the Yongzheng period which are often seen with peach and bat design. However, a Yongzheng-marked dish decorated with prunus flowers, iron-red peonies and insects which is strikingly similar to the present lot, is in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing and is illustrated in Selected Porcelain of the Flourishing Qing Dynasty, Hong Kong, 1994, p. 188, no. 33.
