A BAMBOO ROOT CARVING OF SEATED BUDDHA
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
The bamboo is carved in the form of Buddha seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus throne, with the right hand extending in abhayamudra. The figure wears loosely draped robes revealing a bare chest, which fall in crisp folds around the body.
