Rolex has used a number of exotic materials for the dial constructions on Day-Date watches. A few examples include: marble, mirrors, fossils, coral, wood, and a wild array of semi-precious stones. The present watch, however, features what is arguably among the most unusual materials to be employed in dial construction: true meteorite. Originated most probably during the planetary formation phase of the solar system as an ejection of planetary molten core, the material then cooled in the vacuum and zero gravity environment of deep space, creating the typical pattern called “Widmanstätten pattern” which can be admired on the dial of this, quite literally, stellar timepiece.
