A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE 'DRAGON-TURTLE' HINGED BOX AND COVER
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The hollowed box is carved in the form of a part dragon-part turtle mythical beast with a fierce expression, horns and shell. The hinge is carved in high relief on its shell with the cover in the form of a book. The facial details and claw feet are all finely detailed. The stone is of a mottled celadon and russet tone with cloudy white flecks, inclusions and fissures.
