First edition in a contemporary armorial binding.

4° (187 x 150mm). Engraved title, woodcut diagrams throughout. (Occasional small marginal dampstaining.) Contemporary calf, spine gilt in compartments, sides richly panelled in gilt with an all-over design of nested borders, centred with indistinct arms in gilt, edges gilt (front joint starting to split but holding). Provenance: Friedrich Augustus, Prince of Brunswick-Oels (1740-1805; bookplate with shelf marks) — Dresden Central Art Library (small stamp).

Engraved title by Höckner and Ramslet after Schibling. Beütel was court mathematician to Johann Georg II, Elector of Saxony. His valuable survey of astrology considers solar and lunar eclipses, calculates the horoscope of historical figures and reigning monarchs, discusses various instruments and the influence of the celestial bodies on the climate, agriculture and human events, and provides the latitude and longitude for hundreds of cities.
