A PURPLE-GROUND TWO-TONED CUT VELVET SURCOAT
LATE 19TH CENTURY, MANUFACTURER'S MARK JIANGSU LIN HE MAO HAO BEN JI ZI ZAO
The robe is decorated with ruyi-head roundels enclosing peony and wan symbols. The collar is fashioned from the selvage bearing the manufacturer's mark, which may be translated as, 'Jiangsu, made by the own machine of Lin Hemao', followed by a seal mark reading mu ji tu shu, which may be translated as 'seal of remembering harmony'.
