slightly tapering étui of oval section, the cover and base each with oval enamel miniatures depicting pastoral scenes from the fables of La Fontaine, within taille d’épargne dark blue entrelac enamel borders, with colourful trailing enamel flower heads and sprays, blank matrix
4¾ in. (120 mm.) high
The fables depicted in the enamels are, ‘The Milk Maid and her Pail’, ‘The Fox and the Grapes’, ‘The Raven and the Fox’, 'The Fisherman and the Little Fish’, and ‘The Iron Pot and the Clay Pot.'
