Lot Essay

These goblets illustrate the immense skill of the Bohemian engraver in an impressive display of the technique known as Tiefschnitt, which involved carving away layers of glass to create entire scenes in intaglio. The engravers August Böhm and Johann F. Hoffmann of Carlsbad specialised in this type of deep engraving, often depicting dynamic stag hunts.
