Exceedingly rare advance copyright printing in wrappers, preceding the first published edition. On copyright page: “Set up and electrotyped. Published [space], 1905.” Deposited Nov. 15, 1905. These unillustrated and plainly bound copies would have been printed in a very limited number for copyright purposes only. The first published book edition was not published until October 1906 (BAL 11896). BAL only locates a copy at University of Virginia, and no copy has appeared on the market.
8vo. Printed on laid paper. Original printed gray paper wrappers (a few small chips on spine and corners, some minor rubbing and age-toning). BAL 11888 (and illustrated opposite p. 436).
