2 parts, 4° (200 x 135mm). Dedicatee’s arms on title, two identical woodcuts of Galileo’s ‘bilancetta’, woodcut ornaments. (Light worming throughout, some spotting and marginal soiling.) Later vellum, uncut (bowed, recased with new endpapers).
FIRST EDITION on the detection of counterfeit precious metals, and the correct use of weights and measures. The author was an admirer of Galileo, and his work prints the latter's discourse on Archimedes’ proof of the theft from Hiero’s crown together with his account of a new weighing instrument named the ‘bilancetta’. Carli and Favaro 199; Cinti 112; Riccardi I(ii) 213.3: ‘raro ed assai pregiato’.
