Remondini’s reprint of Santini’s ambitious world atlas. Although its principal sources are the great French mapmakers of the mid 18th century, its immediate publishing origins show themselves in the 27 maps of Italy and its regions at the start of volume II. The 1784 map of the Russian discoveries on the west coast of America is of particular interest, as is the more extensive double-page map of the new discoveries in the North Pacific. Santini sold the copperplates of his Atlas Universel to Giuseppe Remondini in 1781. NMM III, 277; Nordenskiöld 276; Phillips, Atlases 647.
