The chest displays a geometric pattern of roundels that were characteristic of Welsh furniture. A miniature oak chest of circa 1660 - 90 is carved overall with similar roundels, illustrated in D. Bebb, Welsh Furniture 1250 - 1950, Aberystwyth, 2007, vol II, p.295, fig 498, while the shaped stile foot is another common Welsh feature.
