Fine impressions of nine early views of Alaska on five plates, including several of Sitka as well as the Aleutian Islands. The group also includes a wonderful full-page depiction of a Sitka family inside their cabin, after sketches by Russian scientist Alexander Postels. The plates, numbered 3, 4, 5, 7, and 10, are taken from the atlas volume of Litke’s account of his circumnavigation, Voyage autour du monde (1835-1836). Cf. Lada-Mocarski 98 and 100; Streeter sale 3520; Sabin 42739.
Five lithographs, 524 x 350mm (approx.), by Godefroy Engelmann after drawings by Postels and Baron Kittlitz, on heavy wove paper (faint marginal staining). Provenance: PBA Galleries, 27 March 2014, lot 504.
