BRITISH PARLIAMENTARY PAPERS – FRANKLIN SEARCH. [INGLIS, R.H.] Vessels in the North Atlantic. Copies of Communications between the Admiralty and any Public Authorities at Home and Abroad, in reference to certain Vessels observed on an Iceberg in the North Atlantic in 1851, and supposed to have been Abandoned (caption title). London: House of Commons, 1852.
The first edition. Contains correspondence regarding the 1851 sighting of two ships on an iceberg drifting over the banks of Newfoundland. There was speculation that they were the lost Erebus and Terror of the Franklin expedition. Most likely they were abandoned whaling vessels. There are contributions by Erasmus Ommaney and others. Arctic Bib. 45236; TPL 3253.
Folio (345 x 218mm). 40 pp. One plate and folding map partially colored (some dampstain to plate and front page, map splitting at folds). Disbound (a little edge-chipping). Provenance: Donald A. Heald Rare Books.
