Tasting note: A vinous rarity, found in a hidden away corner of the Dow’s lodge. While we were tasting this port regularly members of staff came in the room to have a look/taste as they too never had seen let alone tasted this unique vintage port. The bottles were registered at the institute but never declared. Deeper orange red compared to the 1960. Fine nose of peppery sweet fruit with some balsamic tones, honey cake, beef soup and Indian spices. The fine elegant start of taste is smooth, refined and mouth filling. A well balanced vintage port with medium length. All there in a more approachable style. A very nice vintage port which was just bound to be forgotten once the strong classic 1963’s were aging in the cellar. Last tasted July 2017. Only a limited number of bottles remain. EV.
