Lot Essay

This piece is offered with a typed extract from a publication, probably a local newspaper, source and date unknown, which notes: "During our editorial career we have had frequent occasion to notice, in terms of highest commendation, the very able manner in which Mr Ashfield, constable of Stratford, has performed his official duties". It goes on to give the inscription on the piece as above, and concludes: "The cover is surmounted by a Falcon with expanded wings, admirably executed - this device is very appropriate, Mr Ashfield, as is well known, having ably supported the character of "Mine Host of the Falcon" for many years past".
