Château Mouton-Rothschild 1995
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
In original wooden case
Tasting note: Also five notes, the first two in New York, December 1997. Crisp fruit and peppery at the pre-sale tasting, but quite unready for drinking at dinner the same evening. The following spring, making a note for the Mouton label book: opaque, velvety; nose like cedar pencil, opening up fragrantly; sweet, full, good extract, exciting flavour – 12.5% alcohol noted. In November 1999, beginning to open up at the MW tasting, its nose distinctly and characteristically spicy blackcurrant; deliciously crisp flavour and glorious end taste. My highest mark, although tied with three other first growths, at a blind tasting. Most recently: medium-deep with relaxed rim; nose fragrant, slightly vegetal at first, but harmonious, developing sweetly. Sweet on the palate too, rich, complete, perfect weight. Very good wine. Last tasted Sept 2005 ***(**) .M.B.
