Lot Essay

The reference 570 is one of the most appreciated and well known vintage watches by Patek Philippe. Introduced in 1938, it is a larger scaled version of the reference 96, remaining in production until 1972. With a 35.5 mm. diameter, it was quite a large watch for the time, but it is the perfect size for the modern wrist. Furthermore, the flat bezel gives the watch an overall large profile when worn on the wrist in particular with the bold 20mm lug gauge for the strap.

This example features a rarely seen gilt dial which upon closer inspection has a stepped edge towards the outer minute ring. Housed in an 18 carat gold case, the monotone quality of this watch is highly appealing. Furthermore, a crisp hallmark is seen to the case side, enhancing its desirability.
