A LARGE MOTTLED DARK GREEN AND BROWNISH-BLACK JADE BUDDHIST LION
LATE MING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY
The beast is boldly carved in a recumbent position with its front and hind legs tucked beneath its body and its tail flicked over its rear haunches. It is carved with an animated expression, and its head is turned to the left with a lingzhi fungus in its mouth. The stone is of a deep green tone to the base which lightens to an opaque calcified tone on the upper sections.
