GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN, CLOS-ST.-JACQUES, 1ER CRU
Nearly 110 years old, this vineyard was originally planted in 1910 has a total surface of 6 hectares, of which we have 0,89 hectares. Beautifully positioned on the slope, south facing, right up in the north of Gevrey, many consider the “Clos St Jacques” to be a Grand Cru. Indeed, it nearly was after the 1st World War, but unfortunately at the time it was owned by a royalist, who inconvenienced the judges of the INAO with an unfortunate cigar at the time of classification! The wine from the north of Gevrey tends to be more masculine and with darker fruits as opposed to the wines in the south. There, along the Route des Grands Crus, the wines are more feminine, with more red fruits. Every year this amazing vineyard never fails to give such tiny grapes, we like to call the “caviar.”
