SUPERLATIVE VINTAGES DIRECT FROM DOMAINE FOURRIER
Domaine Fourrier is one of my favourite Burgundy Domaines producing silky rich and elegant wines with delightful lifted and fragrant red fruit aromatics that is the hallmark of great Pinot Noir. I am delighted that Jean-Marie and Vicki Fourrier have teamed up with us at Christie’s New York by offering a selection of their superlative wines dating back to the outstanding 1988 vintage direct from the Domaine’s cellars in Burgundy.
Jean-Marie took over the Domaine from his father Jean-Claude in 1994 and along with his wife, Vicki has been instrumental in bringing Fourrier to the very forefront of the finest Domaines in Burgundy. I consider the Domaine to be in the same league as Armand Rousseau which is high praise indeed. Prior to taking over the Domaine, Jean-Marie worked for Drouhin in Oregon and with the legendary Henri Jayer.
I have been fortunate to taste their wines on numerous occasions and I have always been impressed by the concentration and purity of fruit flavours with a perfect balance of freshness and vivacity that enables their wines to evolve gracefully over the long-term. All their wines are matured in 20% new oak which enables the bright fruit aromas and flavours to shine through. Their most famous wines are Griotte Chambertin and Clos St Jacques, and along with their other vineyards are planted with old vines and these fantastic terroirs combined with the brilliance of Jean-Marie’s wine making, goes some way to explain the magic of the Fourrier wines.
