the case with brass flambeau finial to the chamfered top, cornucopia ring handles to the sides above fish scale sound frets, with foliate cut-brass inlay to the front, on rectangular base with ball feet, the circular white-painted Roman dial (repainted) signed J. HOWDEN & CO. EDINBURGH, within leaf cast pierced gilt-metal mask, the twin train gut fusee movement with anchor escapement and strike on bell, with engraved borders and repeat signature to the backplate -- 16in. (41cm.) high
