Thousands of fans packed Yankee Stadium on April 27, 1947 to honor their hero, Babe Ruth. The Babe had been invited to the stadium to celebrate his career to which he attended even though suffering through his battle with throat cancer. Ruth was able to say a few words to the adoring crowd at the stadium he enabled to be built. Color linen postcard pictures a grandstand view of Yankee Stadium which has been signed by Ruth at the upper right corner in black ink. Signature rates 8 out of 10 displaying nicely against the blue skyline. Period back ink notation at bottom margin, "Babe Ruth Day-April 27, 1947" with reverse inscribed and signed by Ruth's marketing agent Christy Walsh. Fascinating content within the notations by Walsh including, "Babe signed the Cards at the Stadium for a few of my friends. Its a souvenir of his big day at the old ballyard-Im afraid his last appearance there. Sincerely, Christy". Ruth would make one final appearance on June 13, 1948 before losing his battle with cancer in August of that same year. The card in postmarked May 2, 1947 as having been sent from Grand Central Station in New York City to noted sports editor of the Ohio State Journal Bob Hooey. Highly desirable autographed souvenir piece relaying to a notable yet somber day in Ruth's storied Yankees career. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA: Postcard: EX, Signature: NM-NM/MT
