Three page handwritten letter as sent to Marilyn Monroe from Joe DiMaggio as he was courting his future wife just four months after their initial meetings. The letter content was predictive of the stormy relationship that would follow between the two American icons. Joe writes, in part, "Dear Marilyn, I just got through talking with you-and I don't know what else to say than I have already said. However, it bothers me (call it guilt or what have you) to think about what happened the day I left for New York. I definitely am punishing myself. I have always felt that I've been able to 'take' it, but in this particular istance, I find myself rather cold." DiMaggio remarks in closing the letter, "What you have read has been put mildly and very brief. I am handing you the 'deck' of cards now-you shuffle them and deal; all I ask is you forgive me. Love, Joe". DiMaggio's sentiment was poignant and sincere although overwhelmingly forboding as to the doomed relationship. When the two met DiMaggio was easily the more popular of the duo until the point at which Monroe's stardom expoded causing conflict that never was able to be fully resolved. Joe DiMaggio's classic penmanship is evident within the carefully and neatly composed letter showing its importance to Joe. One of the earliest surviving written documentations of the iconic American duo of notable significance. Content and signature rate 8/9 out of 10. Includes original mailing envelope to Monroe at the Bel-Air Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Each letter page and envelope are individually encapsulated by PSA/DNA and includes full LOA from JSA: NM
