MORTLACH

Founded in 1823 in Dufftown by James Findlater, Mortlach was the first distillery in the area, preceding Glenfiddich’s establishment by four decades. The founder of Glenfiddich - William Grant, worked at Mortlach for over 20 years. The distillery is amongst only 16 distilleries that still uses a worm tub condenser, and they also spray cold water onto the lyne arms to speed up condensation, which contributes to a charmingly full-bodied and robust profile. Before the distilleries relaunch by Diageo in 2014, Mortlach was only found as independent bottlings. The Rare Malts release is highly sought-after by collectors.
This 1972 release was bottled at cask strength, 65.3%. The style is rich, viscous and gamey, balanced by a high degree of alcohol.
