The first Latin Bible printed in Venice, with interesting early marginalia. The Beggi-Martin-Haddaway copy. Goff B-541; HC 3054*; Bod-inc B-251; BMC V 193; BSB-Ink B-419; GW 4216; ISTC ib00541000.
Chancery folio (277 x 193mm). 454 leaves (of 455, lacking a text leaf, replaced in facsimile). Red and blue painted initials, some with reserved decoration, red and blue paragraph marks (a little worming in text at start, occasional stains). Modern brown morocco, with manuscript fragment previously used as binding waste retained. Provenance: "Fr. Gabriel de Ferrara" (inscription on final leaf) - partially effaced inscription on first blank with note of purchase on Epiphany in another hand - Francesco Orazio Beggi, fl. 1848-1864 (monogram bookplate) - Robert Walsingham Martin, 1871-1961, New York Collector (his sale, Parke Bernet, 12 November 1963, lot 298) - Arthur Haddaway, 1901-1981, Texas bibliophile (morocco book label, sold Christie's New York, 25 September 1981, lot 156).
