Les statues biteki sont des effigies masculines voire des portraits idéalisés d’ancêtres. Cet exemplaire était probablement destiné à la protection, en témoignent les attributs brandis tels que le couteau et le fusil. Une charge magique bilongo était située dans la cavité, assurant les facultés protectrices et thérapeutiques qui leur étaient conférées.
L’extraordinaire soin apporté aux signes de beauté, aux attributs et aux traits du visage, confère à cette statue une élégance rare. Les motifs rhombiques et horizontaux ornant le torse, telle une dentelle en champlevé, sont sublimés par la patine lisse et luisante, présente sur l’ensemble de la surface de la statue, témoin d’une utilisation longue et répétée. Les genoux fléchis, quant à eux, supportent un buste puissamment articulé par des omoplates dessinées. Le mouvement latéral de la coiffe subtilement travaillée renforce le dynamisme de la sculpture.

Biteki statues are male figureheads or idealized portraits of ancestors. This example was probably intended for protection, as highlighted by the attributes brandished such as the knife and the gun. A magical bilongo charge was located in the cavity, ensuring the protective and therapeutic faculties that were conferred upon them. The extraordinary care given to the signs of beauty, to the attributes and facial features, convey a rare elegance to this statue. The rhombic and horizontal motifs adorning the torso, like champlevé lace, are enhanced by the smooth and shiny patina, present on the entire surface of the statue, witness to long and repeated use. As for the bent knees, they support a bust powerfully articulated by outlined shoulder blades. The lateral movement of the subtly worked headdress reinforces the dynamism of the sculpture.
