Several versions of this composition exist, including one in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no. 3268), which bears an inscription that identifies the sitter. Another version, attributed to Corneille de Lyon, without an inscription and depicting Charles de Cossé wearing the same hanging sleeves, is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv. no. 49.7.44).

We are grateful to Dr. Alexandra Zvereva for confirming, on the basis of photographs, that she believes this work to have been produced in Corneille de Lyon’s studio (private communication, 8 November 2023).
