Modelled in an animated posture, head lowered, paw raised and tailed flicked over its back, with a fixed gaze and inquisitive expression, the white body covered with black, iron-red and turquoise spots

The present lot may be compared with the pair of Arita puppies in the Collection of Burghley House, ref. CER0303, recorded in the 1688 Burghley House Inventory; and a Kakiemon-type dog, late 17th century in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Acc. no. 1975.268.529. A pair of Arita puppies from the Ann and Gordon Getty Collection sold at Christie's New York, 22 October 2022, lot 363.
