Lot Essay

In the early 1930s, Tribe created a number of classically and mythologically themed works - including “Fountain of Life”, 1932, “The Spirit of the Sea”, 1933 and “Bacchanalia”, 1934 and the present lot “Medusa” in 1931. The present lot was cast in an edition of twelve by the founder Alan Crawford, Sydney. In 1995 on a visit to Sydney, Tribe presented a cast to the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
