Enthusiastically described by David Livingstone-Learmonth as 'one of the finest Ben Marshalls in existence' (loc. cit.), this graceful composition depicts Thomas Sebright, a much-praised huntsman who served Lord Fitzwilliam and occasionally George 'Squire' Osbaldeston, leader of the Quorn Hunt. Sebright achieved great professional renown, earning countless mentions in contemporary hunting diaries and even in an 1840 issue of journal The Veterinarian, which reproduced his advice on avoiding distemper in young hounds.
