KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)
The cup is decorated on one side with a blossoming and fruit-laden pomegranate tree and is inscribed on the other side with a short poem referencing dewdrops and a fragrant breeze. This cup represents the fifth month in the lunar calendar.

Lot Essay

The couplet inscribed on one side of the cup is derived from a poem about pomegranates by the Tang poet Sun Ti (AD 696-761) and may be translated as: The reflection of dew drops is like a curtain of beads, the scented breeze is sheltered by the chalk wall.
