A eight and a half page autograph letter, signed, dated 2nd August [1960] to an old girlfriend and fellow art student Susan Williams, complaining ...Boredom appears to have been elevated to the position of public enemy no.1... recounting a trip to London ...to see Picasso exhibition - came straight back next next [day] after being arrested for vagrancy and loitering - time - 4.10am. I was careless enough to go as I stood - dirty, paint spotted - arrived home same day 12.10pm without seeing Picasso... a visit to the doctor ...in connection with my acceptance for A.T.D. she asked me how my mind felt, I replied if she cared to touch it she would probably find it alright. This remark, she answered was not one of a responsible person...she came to the part which reported my I.Q. which when I was examined was 143. Here she had a problem - confronted by an adolescent teddy-boy whose medical report showed an I.Q. which was probably far superior to her own, she had to make a report advising my capabilities as a future teacher. The problem was made no easier when...I confronted her stripped to my toe-nails...she had forgotten to tell me to leave my underpants on. Panic added to confusion necessitated a quick opinion of my talents...I'm sorry if you thought there was going to be a spicy ending to this little adventure... and asking after her boyfriend ...how are you (sic) affairs with a certain gentleman progressing - or retarding as I would like...love Stuart xx; and corresponding envelope
