Lot Essay

When the painting last sold in 2011, Marijke de Kinkelder endorsed the attribution on the basis of photographs (private communication, 8 December 2010). She pointed out that the figures are painted by Adriaen van de Velde (1636–1672) and suggested a date of 1672, the year of Adriaen's death.
