Réalisé par l’artiste florentin Lorenzo Lippi, ce dessin est une étude pour l’une des dix figures de putti et de chérubins ornant les écoinçons peints à fresque, Le Couronnement de la Vierge, dans la chapelle Ardinghelli de l’église des Saints-Michel-et-Gaétan, à Florence (C. d’Afflitto, Lorenzo Lippi, Florence, 2002, pp. 98 et 99). Lippi reçut la commande de la décoration de la chapelle familiale des Ardinghelli en décembre 1642, et en acheva l’exécution six mois plus tard, en juin 1643 (ibid.).
This drawing, by the Florentine artist Lorenzo Lippi, is a study for one of the ten figures of putti and cherubs in the spandrels beneath the fresco ceiling with the Crowning of the Virgin in the Cappella Ardinghelli in the Church of Saints Michele and Gaetano in Florence (C. d’Afflitto, Lorenzo Lippi, Florence, 2002, pp. 98 and 99). Lippi was commissioned the decoration of the Ardinghelli family chapel in December 1642, and completed it after six months in June 1643 (ibid).
