Lot Essay

The name ‘Octa’ was chosen as a prefix for all of F.P. Journe’s automatic watches as it derives from the Latin word for ‘eight’. When flipped on its side, the number 8 represents infinity or limitlessness, a notion that aptly captures the Octa calibres' long power reserve and durable mechanical performance.

Octa Calendrier
The Octa Calendrier was the third complication to be added to the Octa automatic calibre family and the first annual calendar wristwatch designed by François-Paul Journe. A significant milestone in horology was reached when an annual retrograde calendar was incorporated while maintaining the movement's original dimensions. Journe's crown-only setting system, which eliminated the need for extra pushers to disrupt the case band and allowed all indications to be changed solely through the crown, was equally important. Only once a year, at the end of February in non-leap years, does the calendar mechanism need to be manually corrected. At the time of its launch, the Octa Calendrier stood out from everything else on the market thanks to its exceptional 120-hour power reserve and distinctive retrograde date display, demonstrating F.P. Journe's pursuit of both technical innovation and practical elegance.
