Lot Essay

In 1977, Vacheron Constantin introduced its first dedicated luxury sports watch, the elegant reference 222, which would later evolve into the celebrated Overseas collection. However, the brand started experimenting with a more relaxed, athletic look earlier. Vacheron Constantin made its debut into the world of sophisticated sports watches in 1975 when it introduced reference 2215, also known as reference 42001 due to later numbering changes.

Notably, this model was added to the esteemed Chronomètre Royal line, a name that has been connected to accurate timekeeping since its inception in 1907 and was later used for wristwatches starting in the middle of the 20th century. This placement highlights the manufacturer's goal of fusing chronometric performance with sporting elegance.

Reference 2215 was produced in extremely limited numbers, approximately 220 examples in stainless steel and only around 50 in yellow gold. The present timepiece represents a rare and highly desirable iteration. It is further distinguished by its black dial, set with baguette-cut diamond hour markers at 3, 9 and 12 o’clock, with a date aperture positioned at 6 o’clock.

An integrated gold bracelet that provides exceptional presence on the wrist complements the case, which is distinguished by its unique octagonal shape and stepped bezel. The model's harmonious blend of luxury and functionality is further reinforced by the clasp's three adjustable positions, which guarantee comfort and practicality.
